‘Living in Thane enriches life’
June 2025
He’s captivated his audience - be it the serials or the films he’s starred in. His role as Inspector Laxmikant Gaitonde in "Drishyam" and "Drishyam 2" underline why Kamlesh Sawant is an actor with a huge fan following! A Thanekar by choice, he shares his thoughts in a conversation with Consulting Edition Kamlesh Pandya, on what makes Thane the right place to call ‘home’.
I grew up in Kalachowki, Lalbaug and in my bachelor days, life was very different. South Central Mumbai’s chawls bring about a lifestyle where you are constantly with friends, at different locations – simply because the homes in South Central Mumbai’s chawls – at least then - were small.
My fiancée wanted me to move out and make a change; as destiny would have it, the chawl went in for redevelopment. We first moved to a rented home in Kalwa and spent some time searching for a new home, while parallelly, my career grew.
We checked out homes in suburban Mumbai, Navi Mumbai but my better half found a home she liked in Thane. She wanted to move into a ‘new, untouched’ home, I liked it too - and we ended up making Lodha Luxuria Priva near Majiwada, our home in Thane. Not just for me as a former Kalachowki, Lalbaug resident, but I feel homes in Thane – like my home in Lodha Luxuria Priva - reflect open, green spaces, a larger sized home, and if in a complex, one which offers all amenities a home seeker would look for.
I love living in Thane because Thanekars are a loveable community, people here have a ‘mixing’ nature, one feels ‘at home’ in Thane
Life in Thane is positive. I feel at times, life needs a change of location – like I did, from Kalachowki, Lalbaug in South Central Mumbai to Thane.
In the township I live in, Lodha Luxuria Priva, fellow residents are good at heart, have a good nature and the project has a vibrant community.
My life as an actor has moved from serials to films, and I feel I have grown faster in my industry as a Thaneite – the home offers everything I wanted in life, so my focus is on work. The one thing I like about Thane is the ‘foodie culture’. There are so many restaurants offering such diverse cuisine options.
Last Word? Living in Thane enriches life.
