Wonders of Thane: A City Becoming Happier & Happening
November 2025
Last week, my aunt from the USA visited us after five years, and she was amazed to see the remarkable transformation of Thane. What was once a peaceful lakeside city has now blossomed into a vibrant, modern, and beautifully planned urban destination. The first place that left her spellbound was Namo The Grand Central Park, an expansive green oasis that reflects worldclass planning. Equally refreshing was the Oxygen Park, where lush greenery and pure air create a perfect escape from city life.
She was delighted to see the newly installed Vitthal Murti at Upvan, a serene landmark adding spiritual charm to Thane. The stunning murals at various junctions gave her a glimpse of the city’s growing artistic expression. The iconic Gadkari Rangayatan, now revamped, stood proudly as a centre for culture and performing arts.
Though Thane has always been known as the City of Lakes, she felt it could also be called the City of Gardens. The beautiful gardens near Kashish Park, near Courtyard on Pokhran Road 2, and the vibrant Ovalekar Butterfly Garden were among her favourites. She was especially impressed by the lively garden near Planet Hollywood at Hiranandani Estate, now one of the most happening picnic spots for families.
The Music Fountain Show at Upvan is truly mesmerizing. In the cool winter evenings, the colourful water jets dancing to electrifying music create a magical atmosphere. It’s a wonderful blend of lights, rhythm, and nature, an experience that delights visitors of all ages and adds charm to Thane’s vibrant nightlife.
Her visit to the ISKCON Temple near Balkum, the Balasaheb Thackeray Art Gallery at Teen Haath Naka, and the scenic Gaimukh Chowpatty added more colour to her trip. She observed how, earlier, people often travelled to Mumbai for leisure, but today Thane offers everything—great food, exciting street food, and a new trend where top brand restaurants choose Thane as their next destination after South Mumbai.
While returning to the USA, she carried back plenty of beautiful memories and promised to come back soon. Thane is indeed getting happier, greener, and truly happening!
